Al-Buraq Mosque
It is located in the south-western area of Al-Aqsa Mosque under the Morroco Gate. It was named after the Prophet M ohammad (pbuh) tied the Buraq during the Israa and Mi’raj journey.
It is located under a part of the south-western yard of Al-Aqsa Mosque and near Al-Buraq wall, where the Prophet Mohammad (pbuh) tied the Buraq during the Israa and Mi’raj journey, and that’s how it got its name.
It is a small narrow mosque with 38 steps down. Its entrance is located in the western arcade of Al-Aqsa. It is located on the left side of people coming from Morocco Gate and it opens on Friday mornings and in some occasions.
Researches emphasize that Al-Buraq Mosque and its gate are Umayyad buidings, because the elements exist in that door are the same elements that exist in the Golden Gate (Al-Rahma) and the Double Gate. They also say that this mosque, which was rebuilt during the Mamluk period in 707-737 Hijri\1307-1336 AD, is linked to the old Asqsa Mosque, Al-Marwani Mosque and the Golden Gate.
Al-Buraq Mosque suffers from cracks in some of its stones due to the extreme humidity and water leaking. This situation might get worse due to the restrictions imposed by the Zionist occupiers on the restoration work throughout their comprehensive blockade over Al-Aqsa Mosque especially that it’s completely adjacent to Al-Buraq wall which Zionists had turned into a wailing area. There is also a police force which continuously remains near the gate of Al-Buraq Mosque insdie Al-Aqsa Mosque, which henders Muslim worshipers from reaching it. A Zionist plan of controlling this mosque was unveiled when the destruction of the hill of Morocco Gate road started in 06/02/2007, especially after opening the other closed door that leads there from outside the wall of Al-Aqsa Mosque, which lies directly under Morocco Gate, in the aim of turning it int a synagogue.
Moreover, the Zionist excavation spread in that area are way to close to Al-Buraq Mosque.
This mosque used to an old door from outside the wall of Al-Aqsa Moque in Al-Buraq yard. However, it was closed later and a new door was opened from inside Al-Aqsa Mosque.
